Available for purchase are 15 seeds from one of the stars of my summer garden, Rosy-Eye Hibiscus Moscheutos, a tropical attitude in a northern latitude! This medium to large hibiscus, native to the U.S., will surely be a star in your garden! They bloom exotic flowers reaching up to 8" across on thick stalks of luscious green foliage. Plants may be in any shade of rose, pink, or white with white to yellow stamens. Most will have a ruby eye. These hibiscus prefer rich, moist soil, but have been drought tolerant in my garden. I cut them back early in the season for sturdier stalks and twice the blooms. They would make a great addition to a bog garden, marsh area or any garden bed that needs a tropical makeover. There is a butterfly that raises their young on the foliage, but has never become a nuisance. They are resistant to pests and disease, although you may need to pluck a Japanese beetle or two off. Hummingbirds do frequent the large blooms, as they are planted right by my honeysuckle vine. Be sure to mark the area where you plant them. They are very late to emerge from the soil in the spring, but amaze me by how quickly they reach full size in my zone 5 garden. The "strong shall survive" in my garden! You will appreciate my motto.
